Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous dance experience to join a class?

No, our beginners' classes are designed to teach you the basics of Salsa On2 in an environment and at a pace that is most comfortable for you.

We invite students to visit the studio during a beginners' class to participate and gauge your comfort level with the instructor and/or pace of the class. Please contact the studio in advance so that we may recommend the ideal level class for you to join.

Do I need a partner?

Not at all. In fact, many of our students attend class without a partner. Our classes are designed for singles and couples. Classes are taught in group lesson format. During partnerwork exercises, we frequently rotate partners. This provides students with an opportunity to dance with many different people while reinforcing how you would dance (e.g. lead and follow) in social or club setting.

How large are the classes?

Class sizes can range from 15-30 students and may vary from month to month. However, the studio works to ensure that all students receive equal levels of attention during instruction regardless of the class size.

How long is each class?

Each class session is two hours in length. Classes are taught in two halves; Shine instruction (individual footwork) and partnerwork instruction (coupled turn patterns). Classes will typically begin with a 10 minute warm up, 45 minutes of shine instruction and 1 hour of partnerwork instruction.

How long will it take me to learn how to dance On2?

Learning to dance is an ongoing process. While each person is different, learning the basics of salsa will typically take between six months to a year. The key to learning to dance salsa well is Practice, Practice , and more Practice. Even practicing 10 minutes a day will improve your ability to dance. In addition, the studio offers dance socials and private lessons to reinforce what you have learned.

What if I miss a class?

At the beginner and advanced-beginner levels, instructors will briefly review what was taught in the previous class as needed. Instructors are always sensitive to the level and speed in which their students are learning and will move at a pace that best serves the entire class.

If you are absent, classes can only be made up with the same month. Unfortunately, we do not offer the option of rolling over classes in to an upcoming month.

What should I wear?

Students should wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement. We ask that male students NOT wear tank tops, however sleeveless t-shirts are acceptable.

Appropriate shoes are required and are available for purchase at the studio. Students should NOT wear shoes or sneakers with rubber soles and/or pointy heels as they will damage the studio floor and inhibit the learning of proper salsa technique.

What are socials?

Socials are casual gatherings where students can practice what they have learned in class.

Whatever your level of dance experience, these events are a great opportunity to meet new people, become comfortable with dancing in a social or club atmosphere, and listen to great salsa music.
